Georgia on our minds at Apple Mountain

Here are pictures of our four days in northern Georgia and our stay at Apple Mountain Resort in Clarkesville.  Our first stop, even before checking into the resort, was Babyland General, home of Cabbage Patch Dolls.  It's our third trip to the resort and to Babyland and the Mason girls love it.

Some of the dolls can get a little pricey!

We all registered to win a Cabbage Patch Doll.  Bob simply wrote his name as Grandpa Bob and the lady at the desk thought it was pretty cute and said she hoped she could announce that name as the winner.  Could that have been an omen?

They always have a couple ceremonial "births" of a doll.  The girls got to each hold the newborn.

The omen came true and Bob actually won the drawing for this Cabbage Patch Doll!

Bob had to go into the Adoption office to get the official certificate of birth.  The girls each picked a name for the doll and she is named Polly Mary.

Grandma Rose came through with Valentine's Day bags.

We also had to visit Goats on the Roof.  The entire family gets a kick out of it.

We took quite a long drive along the shores of Lake Rabun to find Minnihaha Falls.  It was about a quarter mile walk back to the falls and through a canopy of rhododendron.  This would be a spectacular walk when they are in bloom.

The falls were very cool

It was a very chilly day and a fair amount of ice along the trail.

The resort does a nice job of having some kind of little craft thing for kids to do each day.

A big hit of the trip with the girls was visiting Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega.  They got to pan for gold and all had gold flakes to take home!

The hard hats are on as we descend into the mine.

It's a poor picture but the guide is standing next to a working pneumatic drill.  It was totally under water for many years while the mine was flooded during non-use.  It was manufactured by Allis Chalmers the guide said as he told us that company made mining equipment before tractors.

The girls also got to screen for gems in a water slough.

"Look at some of my gems!"

We had one warm day so the girls got outside to blow off some steam

Don't they all look happy!?  Actually we had a good time playing euchre and hearts.  The guys won.

Putt putt golf is another fun time for the girls and it's all free at the resort.

Aaawwww

Grandma Rose decided the ladies all needed a facial mask.  It was a big hit on our last night.

Eeeoouuu!  Look at it peel off!
