Lions and Tigers and Friends, Oh My!

The Denja family invited me to go along with them to a Tiger baseball game.  So we watched them beat the Minnesota Twins on a very warm but pleasant night.  Mike Denja scored some Lions football tickets, too, and will take Mikey to a game.  And, I'm finally posting a couple pictures of the Coakleys and Finlans from their visit with us.

"We're going in!"

Peter was not so sure about the statue

The main gate

Maria and Carmen looking good

This was the spot that Mikey and Peter probably really wanted to see

A hazy night, a pretty good crowd and the Fox Theater in the background

Grand Valley State is everywhere in Michigan

Yup, the Tigers won the game 7-1

San Diego and the Houghtens

Here are some of the highlights of our San Diego visit.

Food is ok but I love to stop here.

It's another nice day in sunny San Diego

Our deck view

A mile walk to Seaport Village

The biggest and best calamari strips in the world at the South Beach Bar

Our first ever visit to the horse race in Del Mar.  The Mellor twins helped us bet.

This stupid horse prevented me from winning the trifecta bet

Amy Mellor joined us with the twins.  Many thanks to Alex and Amy for our first night's stay before checking into the hotel.

Erin's workplace security.  Located on the backside of Petco Park

Ready for the game

A beautiful night at the park

Erin and Mike hope this is their next rental home

This is just a part of the view from the rental.  Keep your fingers crossed for them.

Mike is indeed too tall be be a jet pilot

View from the deck of the USS Midway

The sailboat is an old America's Cup racer and the boat is a harbor cruise line

Bob's new hat.  Oh, there's a big boat, too.

Resting in the hotel after a long day

July Fun

It's been a busy July.  And, the first day of August was no slouch either.  Here are some pictures of some of the July moments.

Rose's sister Mary and sis-in-law Robin visited us for a few days.  Bob got to enjoy listening to a non-stop gab fest!
Brighton had a street fair going on while the gals visited.  It was a beautiful day and we strolled the avenue.  Robin looks like the glam girl.

Grandma Alice visited for a few days, too.  We went for a walk on the Brighton boardwalk on a beautiful sunny day.

Lots of ducks and ducklings along the walk way.

Checking out the pond.

It was some kind of dance day and a group of ladies were out and performing.

A large, beautiful moth on our neighbor's door.

We took a quick trip to the Thumb with the Denjas.  Isabel's sunshine shirt did not work so well as we hit a lot of rain on the trip.

Mike D wanted to stop at this site in the Thumb.  While Rose and I lived in Harbor Beach we passed the site literally dozens of times but never stopped.  Glad we finally saw them.

Peter and Mateo were more interested in checking other things out.

Part of the gang on the pier in the Harbor Beach harbor...the largest man-made harbor in the world they claim.

Too bad Mikey is so sad all the time!

Strike a pose!

You can tell it rained.

Leigh is showing.  And, she said, "I can't believe I went to the end of this pier and swam back to shore!"

Mikey and Peter check out the water.

Peter's last two days of being four.

We took all the kids school shopping.  They went in two shifts.  Day one was with Maria, Mikey and Peter.  Day two was with Carmen and Isabel.  Here you see Isabel displaying the goods.

Here is a portion of what the kids got.

Isabel particularly liked her new tennis shoes shown in the foreground.

It's August 1 and Peter's birthday dinner.

Time for presents.

Peter had lots of help from Mikey.

The girls chilled.  Note that in Carmen's hand is her ever present iTouch.

Mateo felt he needed the umbrella in the house.

Mom and son.

He's five years old!

Maria gets to check out the school goods that Isabel and Carmen got...even though the supplies were already packed in the trunk.

Let's do the birthday cake!

Note Rose's hand...trying to keep the other boys from "helping" Peter.

Another day of rain for the party.  It stopped raining long enough for us to go outside and "blow the stink off" and Mateo felt the need to check out the puddle.
